Halle's Story As Told By Her Mom

Halle was born with a head full of dark brown curls, being of Pacific Island descent she had soft textured hair. When Halle was two years old a good family friend noticed that Halle had a patch of missing hair the size of a quarter in the lower back of her head. Her curls were so thick they masked the missing hair. Thinking it was just a fluke nothing was done and no treatment was started. Within a year the hair grew back and a year passed before another spot appeared. This time I found the missing spot and wondered how I could have not seen the hair in her bed or on her pillow. Halle's pediatrician diagnosed Halle with alopecia areata. Over the next few years Halle would lose a patch of hair and it would grow back completely straight (remember Halle's hair was curly) (PHOTOS)

When Halle turned five her spots were growing in size. We were treating her with Aldera and Dermatop. By the end of her fifth year she had lost all the hair across her back hairline up midway her ears. This hair did not grow back for two years. This year August 28th I noticed Halle had a new patch missing in her front hairline. This spot increased until it was not possible to hide. Over the next few weeks her hair began to come out in her comb/brush by the brush fulls. It took from August 28th until the end of September for Halle to lose all her hair. She is now diagnosed with Alopecia totalis. It is important that the public is educated on alopecia. The change is ones physical appearance is hard on the inner person.
